About me

Welcome,

I'm Kathleen

aking the first step on a healing journey takes courage. It means stepping out of your comfort zone to do something different, which is not always easy.

As a Solution-Focused Hypnotherapist and Psychotherapist based in Essex, I specialise in supporting women who are feeling stressed, anxious or overwhelmed. Whether you’re in the throes of parenting, struggling with peri-menopause symptoms or grieving changes in your life and relationships please know that this isn’t a permanent feeling. I can help guide you through with gentle, effective hypnotherapy.

My purpose is to create a safe and supportive space for you and to offer practical tools that will empower you to overcome limiting beliefs, habits, and fears. Using techniques grounded in the latest advances in neuroscience, we can create new neural pathways by rewiring your brain to a strong, confident, calm and in-control state of mind. This work empowers you to make lasting changes and create the life that you truly deserve.

A bit about me!

I’m so pleased and thankful that you’ve landed on my page and want to get to know a little bit more about me and what I do! As you may have already read on my Home page, I am a Solution-Focused Hypnotherapist and Psychotherapist. I’m also a qualified primary teacher of 20 years, a solo parent of two, an adult Third Culture Kid (TCK), and a recovering people-pleaser and “busy bee.”

I trained with CPHT at the forefront of hypnotherapy training in the UK and hold the Diploma in Clinical Hypnotherapy and Psychotherapy (DHP) and the Hypnotherapy Practitioner’s Diploma (HPD), both recognised by professional bodies and considered the gold standard in hypnotherapy training.

Since completing my training, I’ve attended additional courses, lectures, and read countless books to expand my “tool kit” and stay current with modern research. These include Gut-Directed Hypnotherapy, Mindful Menopause, and The Polyvagal Theory in Therapy with further training planned in ADHD, neurodivergence and Natural Mindfulness. I’m also a member of the Association for Solution-Focused Hypnotherapy (AfSFH) and the National Council for Hypnotherapy (NCH). I’m fully insured with Holistic Insurance and hold an Enhanced DBS certificate.

So…now you know all the professional stuff, I guess it is time to explain how I got to this point.   As someone with a degree in horses (yep a Bsc (Hons) in Equine Science in fact!) and with nearly two decades spent in teaching, how did I end up becoming a therapist?

I guess I have always been classed as an anxious/sensitive child.  I wrote countless diaries filled with angst,  I rescued any animal I was allowed to rescue and cried easily! I was also born and raised abroad to British parents and as idyllic as it sounds I always had a sense that I was a foreigner in both places.  I didn’t quite belong anywhere and wanted desperately to fit in.  I realised years later that I was what they now call a Third Culture Kid-a child raised in a culture that is different to that of their nationality. This sense of being a little “rootless” and with friendships forever changing, despite all the positives of having such a multi cultural upbringing, created challenges in developing an identity as well as a lot of anxiety.
I arrived in the UK at 16 to finish my studies and fast forward decades later to a life filled with fun, new friendships, jobs, varying relationships and life experiences, but with a constant niggling cloud of anxiety, lack of confidence and a gold medal in people pleasing!   When I had children in my 30s,  the “mental load” increased ten fold and I felt I had to be constantly on the go or else I was failing at life.  The tipping point came at the end of 2019 when a loveless, abusive marriage came to an end and I found myself age 40 as a solo parent with two children and with no idea of who I was anymore or where I was going.  Luckily I was given the opportunity to get some therapy with a wonderful counsellor and hypnotherapist, and with her very solution focused questioning and amazing boundary making homework she set me most weeks, I started to see a way forward.  I could see the patterns of behaviour that I had been stuck in for so long and that my anxiety and unease was just my brain trying to keep me safe. That started my journey  retraining as a Solution Focused Hypnotherapist and I feel  so grateful to be able to now help guide you on yours.
So, (if you have read thus far thank you!) the message through all of the above is that, like so many people, I have had my challenges.  But I also see my sensitivity as a superpower now.  “It is ok to be kind and thoughtful and generous with others as long as it is not at the expense of yourself” were the words that my therapist shared with me and have stuck with me ever since.

As mums, partners, carers, professionals and everything in-between it can be tricky to find time to focus on ourselves.  We live in a fast paced, increasingly stressful and busy post pandemic world right now  and our resilience is at an all time low.  I would love to help you find your way again and transform the chaos and overwhelm you are feeling right now into clarity, peace and self acceptance.
