95% of our thoughts, behaviours and habits are stored in our subconscious mind.  As a solution focused hypnotherapist I can help support you to get your brain working for you again and not against.  Hypnotherapy is a powerful tool to help get your subconscious mind back on board with what you really want.  In doing so you will feel less overwhelmed and gain more clarity.

Hypnotherapy may appear a bit “woo” but it is not at all! Trance is a very natural and safe state and we experience this naturally many times a day.  Such as when driving (ever felt you were in auto pilot?) , having a shower (how many lightbulb moments do you get when in the shower or bath?!) or even immersed in reading a good book.  There is no mind control.

In this relaxed state we experience changes in our conscious awareness (like being in a daydream).  This allows you to be able to focus on helpful suggestions and thoughts.  That is where I can help! Once your mind isn’t in “fight or flight” mode all the time and filled with what feels like “mental clutter”, your body will start to relax and you will feel calmer and more in control of your life.  You deserve it!

What is Solution Focused Hypnotherapy?

Solution focused hypnotherapy is a form of psychotherapy that uses solution focused techniques and questions, along with hypnosis, to help you access your subconscious mind and make positive changes to your thoughts, feelings, and behaviours. It’s a safe and natural way to reduce anxiety (and many other symptoms) and learn to manage your thoughts and feelings more effectively.

 

Unlike other forms of Hypnotherapy, Solution Focused Hypnotherapy uses a specific structure, which incorporates several aspects of Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) and combines these with an understanding of how the brain works, in combination with using trance.

 

It is also different to other forms of therapy because it doesn’t require me as your therapist to ‘dig into’ your past.  In Solution Focused Therapy, talking in depth about past situations is not necessary to help you be able to formulate plans and best hopes for how you want to move forward in your life.  For some people that can feel reassuring but it is also important to note that you having a safe space to open up into is valid and important and I am here to support and guide you.

 

During our sessions together I will offer you new tools, coping strategies, perspectives and resources so that you can improve your overall wellbeing long term.

How long are the sessions?

We meet weekly for roughly an hour.  When we have our Initial Consultation we will talk about how many sessions we might need but on average women work with me between 6-12 sessions.  Could be more or could be less.  That is entirely within your control.

Specific phobia sessions are roughly 4 sessions. All of which happens in a relaxed frame of mind with no scary exposure therapy! Please message me if you would like more detailed information on phobias.

 

But like any therapeutic relationship it will be essential for you to engage fully in the process and want to make changes.  All problems have unique complexity and we are all different.  I am sadly not a magic wand but I act as a guide to help you move towards that preferred future you are desiring. I will always do my best to help and suggest that you book as many sessions as you need and not a session more!   So let’s do it!

What can I expect?

Once we have made first contact with each other (via email, phone or social media) I will arrange for us to go through an Initial Consultation where I will use the time together to get to know you and for you to get to know me!  I will gather background information, the issues  you are seeking help with (including your goals and best hopes for how you would like things to be in the future) and then go through an explanation of how our brain works and why you may be experiencing the problems you are having.  This is so important to help you understand the reasons you may be feeling what you are feeling and more importantly that YOU can be in control of your own mind and not the other way around! 

 

 It is a great opportunity to ask any questions, to get further clarification on what I do and how it can help you and to get an idea of what our sessions together will look like.  You will also get a relaxation download for you to start listening to at night, which you get to keep.  If you decide that “yep, you are the help I need” then we will go ahead and book our first session together.

 

During a typical session, I will generally always start by asking you about what has been good about your week (or during the time since our last session ). This will help you to discuss what positive things have been going on, and whether you have noticed or made any changes in your life that are moving you nearer to your goals.  This may seem tricky if you are having a difficult time, but by training our brain to pick out even the smallest of wins this will help us to move away from the problem and start trying to stimulate a different area of the brain, an area of the brain which is great at problem-solving.

 

Following this, I will do a bit of “brain revision” which sounds really geeky but this is a great space for gently challenging your own behaviours, beliefs and limitations in a safe way allowing you to start to imagine what your preferred future may be like. E.g. if these problems shifted, what would that be like?

 

We will then have some solution focused questions and discussions.  The “talk therapy” part of our sessions can involve a variety of techniques but as an example I may ask you (if you are coming to me because you are lacking in confidence) on a scale of 1 to 10 how confident are you at the moment? You may reply with 4 to which I will then ask you to imagine that you wake up tomorrow as a 5….what would you notice you are doing differently? What might you say yes to more? Who else would notice? What would they see you do differently? Etc.  We then gently with small steps move towards a small achievable goal for that week that may help you towards being that one step higher on the confidence scale for example. (This is just a very condensed example of things we might talk about as everyone is different and each session will vary depending on what your best hopes are)

 

After this, the lovely relaxing bit happens to finish our session and takes about 20 minutes.  If at home online you can choose to relax on your sofa, chair or bed (or face to face on a comfy chair with footstool) and I will gently guide you into a relaxed, calm state using background music and specifically tailored guided relaxation scripts.  You can enjoy resting in a day-dream-like trance state, where your mind can focus on and further absorb and reflect on the things that we have discussed during the session.

Online or face to face?

I am currently based in North Essex but the majority of my clients work with me online using Zoom.

Online therapy has been found in studies to be just as effective as face to face therapy.   No need to worry about childcare or fitting it in around work, you just need a laptop/Ipad/phone and a free Zoom app. That’s it! Wear your comfy slippers and relax on your sofa if you want. This is especially helpful if feeling overwhelmed or worried or dysregulated and find the whole idea of going somewhere new and unknown quite scary.  If you feel that online would work for you then I’m your gal!

 

Equally I know that since the pandemic some people find the thought of being online again a little sickening and I get it!

How much does each session cost?

The Initial consultation is £45 which includes a free audio download for you to keep. 

 

1 to 1 weekly hour sessions are £70. These single sessions are great if you are new to hypnotherapy and want to spread the cost.

 

Block of 6 sessions is £390.  The session packs provide security and more scope for planning ahead.  If you want certain times and dates especially face to face then this can also mean those times are secured.  

 

Specific Phobia (usually 4 sessions) is £260.  Some complex phobias may require longer.  Feel free to message me to see what would suit you better. 

 

Wellbeing sessions, workshops and bespoke packages.  I offer a variety of other services.  Please contact me to discuss your needs and we can work together to get the right option for you.

Our sessions together are scheduled weekly to start with to make the most of the solution focused process.  Solution Focused Hypnotherapy works quickly but you need to be prepared to engage in the therapeutic process in order to achieve the benefits from the sessions.

 I roughly work with people for 6-12 sessions. Could be more but could be less! It will be entirely up to you.

  • Some tips on how to regulate your nervous system so you can manage stress more effectively.
  • Time for you to lie back and relax whilst listening to a guided relaxation.

 

I can also offer bespoke talks and wellbeing sessions for groups, schools or businesses. This could be about managing workload for staff, understanding the mind-body connection or practical tips for dealing with overwhelm just an an example.
